Spanish Apartment Rentals in Benahavis
- Architectural Haven
Benahavis has remained completely unspoiled, probably
because of its geographical location. Historically,
the Montemayor Castle which encompassed what is now
Benahavis and the land surrounding, was a strategic
stronghold overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and the
coast of Africa. It was crucial to the Arabs who still
owned that part of the Spanish kingdom,
even though the Catholic kings were intent on taking
back this region, the last stand of the Moors.
In fact in 1485 Benahavis together with the lands surrounding
and the Bermeja Mountains, all within the region of
Marbella, were given to King Ferdinand by Mohammed Abuneza.
Benahavis was not seen as a separate and independent
community until the late 18th century.
Little of the castle remains though it was named after
the mountain - Montmayor. Even now evidence can be seen
of the Moors influence in the area with its wonderful
stone walls. So Benahavis is a place of historical
culture. If you want to go wander further out to see
other architectural sites, then take a look at the Tore
Estoril which was part of Monetmayor Castle. What is
left of it gently reminds us of a time when warring
factions saw this monument either as a sanctuary or
their nemesis. For us, it is a reminder of times long
gone. However we can savour and enjoy the beauty of
the Andalucían architecture and experience for
ourselves the setting when considering renting a holiday
Spain villa and replicating the style of a bygone age.
Tour the town and Taste the Tapas
Finally
even if you choose Spanish
apartment rentals outside of Benahavis the food
and restaurants in Benahavis to some is synonymous with
Spanish cuisine. In fact today many tourists who visit
Benahavis can enjoy not only the architectural wonders
of the village with its little shops nestled on narrow,
hilly streets but an area teeming with restaurants.
So after a long day shopping till you drop at Puerto
Banus;15 minutes away, and after a much welcome siesta
in your chosen holiday Spain villa, then freshen up
and go out and sample the delights which Benahavis
is truly famous for - its cuisine! However make no mistakes;
tourists can really be spoilt for choice. Benahavis
is well renowned for the wide variety of food, tapas
bars and its many restaurants. But be careful. Dont
be fooled. That does not mean you dont have to
book. Some of the more popular restaurants such as Los
Abanicos insist on clients booking otherwise it is a
long night waiting for a table. Disappointment should
not be a word you use when experiencing the delights
of Benahavis!
